A New Road For Whitworth - Hayatsu Architects

In collaboration with Grizedale Arts, Karen Guthrie, and Tom Philipson, Hayatsu Architects were commissioned to propose a new road for Whitworth Park, adjacent to the Whitworth Art Gallery at the University of Manchester. This project aimed to extend on John Ruskin’s concept of social practice and his 1873 road-building project in Hinksey.

A New Road For Whitworth will serve as a series of lessons in making: fabricating tiles, laying the road, planting communal gardens, building a Park Keeper’s house, cultivating and harvesting produce, and cooking for one another.
